Anger Management and You

Why are you jealous?

Anger Management? Well, It can be done easily.

What your anger is: It's nothing but the strong outburst of emotion caused by the influence of your mind in your life. Actually speaking, it's your natural response to the things that you think you don't like or are not good. Anger is not a problem but the way you handle it is definitely problematic. You are supposed to handle anger rationally rather than emotionally.

A chemical reaction: Chemically speaking, anger is triggered when Epinephrine (C9H13NO3) is released in the brain. When you succumb to anger, it increases your stress hormone Cortisol. Increased level of Cortisol depletes Serotonin which is the key hormone that stabilizes your mood, feelings of well-being, and happiness.

How your body is affected: Your anger and hostility is always linked to the heart diseases and blood pressure. If you live an anger oriented life, it's going to adversely affect your Short-term memory, Cardiovascular system, Immunity system, Eyesight and even Bone density. Even keeping anger, pent up is harmful to your health.

How anger can be managed: It's so simple but you have to stay focused. Try to focus on you instead of the circumstances you have. Circumstances change easily but your emotional outburst with anger makes the ripple effect of your bad behavior always among the people. This is how you easily lose your connection with people. The Universe doesn't bear anything valueless and if you exist that means that you are worth the value. Try to give people their due respect. Treat people rationally rather than emotionally. If someone has made some problems or mistakes, make them aware about it and guide them properly so that they wouldn't repeat it and it's more effective than you explode yourself with anger. Always remember that your system (body) suffers more from your anger than the victims. You are the masterpiece of your life. You are the meaning of your life. Anger is triggered when you give extra focus on the circumstances. With repetitive practice, you can control anger. When you repeat something, you get used to that. Try to avoid the people/ things triggering anger to the maximum possible extent. If someone is angry with you, that is the choice that person made. That doesn't mean that you have to copy the same choice, getting negatively polarized. Always start your day with a 5 minute meditation, reaffirming that you won't feel angry and will control it. Use music always to change your mood. Know the fact that anger is your mood related problem. When you start your day regularly, listening to the music of your choice which can make you calm and peaceful, it is equivalent to the meditative practice you do. Music definitely changes the way your biochemistry works. When the anger is triggered, practice the deep inhalation and exhalation techniques. Close your eyes, inhale all the anger you have and exhale it altogether, reaffirming that you don't hold any anger anymore. Always do something else new that can help you get over anger, like going for a walk or calling a friend. Practice of love makes you less angry. This is the best way to control your anger.

Anger is not your enemy — it is a signal. It tells you when a boundary has been crossed, when something is not right, or when you feel threatened. The problem is not that you feel anger — the problem is that you react to it without awareness. When you respond to anger instead of reacting to it, you regain control. Anger becomes information, not instruction. This is the first step to managing it effectively.

The Saturnine Practice of Pause

Saturn teaches that the space between stimulus and response is where your power lies. When anger arises, pause. Do not speak. Do not act. Just breathe. This pause allows your rational mind to catch up with your emotional response. It breaks the automatic reaction loop. With practice, this pause becomes a habit. Over time, you will find that anger arises less frequently — and when it does, it passes more quickly.

The Role of Self-Compassion in Anger Management

You cannot manage anger effectively if you are angry at yourself for feeling it. Self-compassion is essential. Recognise that anger is a natural human emotion. You are not weak for feeling it — you are human. The goal is not to eliminate anger, but to respond to it consciously rather than automatically. When you treat yourself with compassion, you create the space to respond to others with the same compassion.

Practical Tips for the Reader

When anger arises, pause before you react. Take a deep breath and give yourself a moment to choose your response. Recognise that anger is a signal, not a command. Practice daily meditation or deep breathing to build your capacity for calm. Use music or physical activity to shift your mood when you feel anger building. Remember that your body suffers more from your anger than anyone else does. Treat yourself with compassion when you feel angry, and extend that same compassion to others. Over time, the pause will become a habit, and anger will lose its hold on you.
